James will be teaching this course in collaboration with the Missaukee Conservation District. Basic photography principles and specific techniques needed for close-up wildflower photography will be covered; as will spring wildflower identification. We will meet at their downtown office and then continue on to Crooked Lake Park for in the field photography fun. Cost is $35/person. Please bring your own camera if you have access to one, however if you have a strong enthusiasm for the subject this is still a great opportunity to try out close-up photography. In this class you will learn and build on watercolor skills such as water control, color mixing, composition, creating texture and more! This is a four week course so you will be able to see your growth over multiple weeks. Classes will include skills demonstrations and activities that will help you create you own original work. Elizabeth specializes in meeting students’ individual interests and artistic goals. Students of all skills and abilities are encouraged to enroll.

Come meet photographer James Manning and see Michigan through his lens. He is most known for his black and white star photography. Around the time of each new moon, when the sky is bursting with stars, you will find him photography in some quite corner of wilderness. Using his skills in long exposure photography and an assortment of specialized equipment he harnesses the glow of the stars so that we might see them at their most resplendent. He will also be displaying his most recent drone series that include vividly colored abstractions of area lakes, and a cyanotype series of Michigan’s river systems.
